Lunch Atop a Skyscraper could be a LEGO set

The LEGO Group is considering releasing Lunch Atop a Skyscraper as a new set to build, interpreting the iconic artwork with minifigure construction workers.

Another LEGO Ideas review period has concluded and a product ideas has made it into the Parking Lot – Lunch Atop a Skyscraper. In plain language, that means that the LEGO Group is considering this fan concept for release as a future model, but has not yet made a final decision.

Paolo Dalla Salda is the LEGO fan who submitted the model, inspired by the iconic black and white photograph. The original was taken on September 20, 1932, and shows 11 ironworkers sitting on a steel beam of the RCA Building, 850 feet above the ground during the construction of Rockefeller Centre in New York City.

The LEGO build is inspired by that classic image. “First, I focused on how to design the base and the style that would best recreate the original phot,” says Paolo. “I added a bit of depth while keeping it relatively flat, like the recent LEGO Art sets. I paid special attention to the minifigures, especially their expressions, clothing, and poses.

“Then I figured out how to build the skyscrapers in the background, mostly using parts with existing patterns. Finally, I worked on the renderings, adding the setting to show the effect it would have once hung.”

After the talented builder submitted the concept to LEGO Ideas, 10,000 users voted for it, which is what caused it to be under review by the LEGO Group. It joins Daft Punk Concert in the Parking Lot – The Old Man and the Sea has been confirmed for release after being in the Parking Lot, so there is a good chance of positive news for Lunch Atop a Skyscraper.
