A new LEGO model will celebrate the holidays and all that can go wrong, with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on the way as a new building set from the LEGO Group.
“It’s a gift that keeps on giving for the whole year!” Cousin Eddie’s comment is about to become reality as National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is coming as a LEGO Ideas set.
After planning for a perfect family Christmas, Clark Griswold soon finds himself battling chaos as relatives, specifically his cousin Eddie, arrive completely unannounced. Then the Christmas lights start failing, the tree falls down and his holiday bonus that was meant to pay for everything never arrives. Yet somehow he manages to hold onto his Christmas spirit.

The third instalment in the National Lampoon series takes the slapstick elements and ramps them up to maximum to create a Christmas movie that’s an enduring family favourite. People who celebrate the holidays can relate to Clark trying to keep everything together while one thing after another seems to go wrong, proving that even the best made plans can’t account for potential hijinks.
Inspired by the Christmas classic, fan designer twrt0es submitted the build to the LEGO Ideas platform and it made it to the 10,000 votes required to be considered for review. Since then it has been under assessment by the LEGO Group to see if it would be realised as an official product, alongside the record-breaking 146 entires within this review.
The fan concept focuses on the Griswold home as that’s where most of the holiday chaos ensues. It’s packed with references to the movie and the most iconic laugh out loud moments. “The Griswold home comes completely furnished with Santa and his reindeer on the front lawn, the ladder to hang the Christmas lights, and some long extension cords connected to a power box on the side of the house,” explains the fan designer, referring to the electrics that go disastrously wrong. “The house is modular, so the different sections can be removed to reveal an interior ready to recreate all of the indoor holiday fun.”

Although the final model will change as the professional LEGO designers work their magic, the minifigure choices might remain close to the original submission, which includes the entire Griswold family of Clark, Ellen, Rusty, and Audrey, as well as Cousin Eddie and his decidedly unexpected camper.
This has been announced alongside the upcoming LEGO Ideas Edward Scissorhands, Amsterdam Canal Houses and The Old Man and The Sea. One more LEGO Ideas set is possibly coming in the future, as Lunch Atop A Skyscraper has been placed in the Parking Lot.
The theme has a stacked slate, with lots of models coming later this year and throughout 2027, including The X-Files, Wallace & Gromit, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Downton Abbey, La Catrina, Ramen, Smurf Village and Go Go Power Rangers! Megazord.
