From fan to LEGO designer

Boone Langston has gone from passionate LEGO fan to professional designer, with a journey that includes the original AFOL Designer Program, years creating videos for Beyond the Brick and appearing as a star contestant on LEGO Masters.

In an extensive interview, Boone tells the full story of his career and reveals what it is like to now be working in Billund, creating LEGO Star Wars sets, and becoming the Brickmaster on LEGO Masters Jr.

Creating the world of Bionicle

LEGO sets sometimes inspire stories, but Bionicle took things much further and built an entire fictional world around its characters and sets.

Greg Farshtey spent almost a decade telling the Bionicle story and in Issue 144 he reveals what it was like to develop the theme’s lore, write for LEGO Club magazine and work on Hero Factory books.

New LEGO building inspiration

There are plenty of new projects to try in Issue 144, including a mini version of 11383 Mayor Manor, a tree built using barrel elements and an exploration of SNOT techniques using a particularly unusual LEGO element.

If you prefer to admire rather than build, there’s also an enormous collaborative Halo creation to discover with insights from the AFOLs behind it, alongside imaginative medieval fantasy MOCs and plenty of other impressive models.
