LEGO Downton Abbey officially announced

It’s time to bring out the fine china and prepare the ballroom as LEGO Downton Abbey is soon to deliver the elegance of the 1920s in an official building set.

The LEGO Group has announced that a Downton Abbey set is on the way. It is based on Highclere Castle, the elegant setting for the immensely popular Downton Abbey historical drama that has now spanned across multiple seasons and movies. Fans of the series can soon experience the elegance of Downton Abbey’s halls, presumably just in time for its 15th anniversary next year.

It easily danced its way to 10,000 votes on the LEGO Ideas platform, with help from fans of Downton Abbey and lovers of classical architecture. It was then placed in the Parking Lot so that the LEGO Group could spend more time considering it for release. This may have been so that the designers could figure out if it could be successfully translated into an official set or to allow more time for the company to acquire licensing agreements (from both Highclere Castle and the makers of Downton Abbey).

“Highclere Castle is a beautiful and majestic architectural monument in itself,” explained fan designer Sebastian Veselka. “However, it is also decorated with picturesque rooms. I tried to depict them in the spirit of the TV series, staying true to a design that imitates the 20th century period. We watched the show as kids with my mom and grandma, so I wanted to rebuild Highclere Castle as a LEGO set to celebrate this fantastic show.”

Alongside the architecture are plenty of references to the storylines that focus on both the Crawley family and the staff working at Downton Abbey. There’s the grand dining room, drawing room, sprawling kitchens to cook up banquet, and Carson’s meticulously organised office. While the original submission has 15 minifigures, including fan favourites like Edith Crawley, Tom Branson and Daisy Robinson, this may change in the official set that is likely to arrive in 2026.

Downton Abbey’s legacy lives on in the final movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, which is in cinemas now. It sees the Crawley family face financial uncertainty while yet another family scandal is revealed in the papers. You can catch up with all of the previous seasons on streaming platforms.

This is one of six sets that have been announced, including E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, La Catrina, Ramen, Smurf Village and Go Go Power Rangers! Megazord. Three more, Daft Punk Concert, The Old Man & The Sea and The Golden Girls have been put into the Parking Lot for further consideration.
