Young LEGO Star Wars fans can test out new SMART Play gadgets, including the SMART Brick, at LEGO Stores during free-to-attend Star Wars Droid Workshops.
Designed for LEGO Star Wars fans aged 9 – 12, a new Level-Up Workshop will let builders create their own LEGO droid and bring it to life with the new SMART Brick.
This event will take place on March 21, 2026; check online or call your local LEGO Store to confirm times, which will vary. Ticketing is required and can be done through the LEGO website. The workshop is limited to stores in the United States and Canada as of writing, but the UK is getting a lightsaber build event this weekend.
The LEGO Star Wars Droid Workshop will provide children an opportunity to test out the new LEGO SMART Play bricks and tags without having to purchase one of the launch day sets. Building a droid is completely free, and like with most events of this type, the build can be taken home after the event.
For the ultimate guide to SMART Play, you need Issue 137 of Blocks, the monthly magazine for LEGO fans.
SMART Bricks and SMART Tags will be on hand for attendees to play with once finishing their builds, but cannot be taken home and must be purchased in one of the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets they appear in. A free SMART Brick would be cool, but with how much tech is packed into it, it is not surprising that they aren’t being handed out. Still, it’s an excellent chance to let curious children play around with the new tech without making a financial commitment.

Upgrade your LEGO hobby! If you take out a subscription to Blocks, the monthly LEGO magazine, you’ll get each issue first and at a discount, plus other perks including a free digital subscription and the chance to win LEGO prizes every month.
And with the promise of being able to bring the droid creations to life, it’s a good way to see the application of SMART Play beyond the initial wave of sets and how it can be applied to the wider LEGO System and individualised, creative play.
This is an event specifically made for children, so adult fans hoping to test out SMART Play products will have to look elsewhere.
If you’d like to sign your child up for the event, you can do so by navigating to the LEGO Stores page of LEGO.com and scrolling through the listed events. Any questions can be directed to your local LEGO Store.
