LEGO Universal Monsters set coming in 2027

The LEGO Group has announced a Universal Monsters set that celebrates iconic and memorable movie creatures from classic films.

A new LEGO set has been announced, expected to launch in 2027 (perhaps around Halloween would make sense?) currently titled Universal Monsters. The movie inspired model was conceived of by LEGO Ideas user SpectralBricks – the concept achieved 10,000 votes, was selected by the LEGO Group and is now bring refined by professional designers for official release.

“The greyscale, the atmosphere, the classic horror aesthetic – it’s something very different for LEGO Ideas,” says LEGO Adult Engagement & Ideas Director Mikkel Holme. “We thought that was really exciting.”

“It’s a true celebration of classic cinema and monster fandom,” adds LEGO Model Designer Maria Anna Jedryszek.

The model that the fan designer created is a classic spooky castle, packed with references to specific monsters and films from the Universal canon. It includes a grand foyer, a secret lab, a music room, a bell tower, catacombs and a dungeon.

He also suggests the minifigures that should be in the set – Count Dracula, The Frankenstein Monster, The Wolf Man, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and The Phantom of the Opera.

“I have always had a great love for the classic Universal Monsters and I think they can teach us volumes, not only about fear, but goodness, humility, and compassion,” SpectralBricks told the LEGO Group. “The great thing about those films is, by today’s standards, they aren’t too scary and most children and adults can watch them and enjoy not only the story, worlds and themes but also learn a lot through the visible evolution happening in the film medium at the time when the films were produced.”

Universal Monsters beat over 70 other product ideas and has been announced alongside Jumanji and Kimonos.

It follows the announcement of a new non-licensed spooky set11383 Mayor Manor will launch on September 1.
