A LEGO fan’s idea for a Jumanji set is going to become a reality, as the LEGO Group has announced the model for official release.
Next year, the LEGO Group will launch a Jumanji set that builds the iconic board game from the movie and includes a selection of minifigures. Prehistorichamster051 is the fan builder who came up with the idea. 10,000 fellow fans voted for the model on the LEGO Ideas platform and now it is being adapted as an official product. It beat out more than 70 other ideas for selection.
“The product idea captures the magic and chaos of the beloved family adventure movie that so many people grew up with,” says LEGO Model Designer Maria Anna Jedryszek.
“What really stood out to us was host instantly recognisable this idea is. The game board itself is such an iconic movie prop – even just the image of it immediately takes you back to the film,” explains LEGO Adult Engagement & Ideas Director Mikkel Holme.

The movie, directed by Joe Johnston, was released in 1995. Alan Parrish discovers a 100-year-old board game called Jumanji and plays it with his friend Sarah Whittle – as they roll the dice, the game pieces start to movie and a crystal ball reveals a message. Two and a half decades later, Judy and Peter Shepherd play the game and release Alan (Robin Williams) – but they must find Sarah to finish the game, which allows the full chaos of the film to ensue.
Stampeding animals, giant mosquitos, rampaging monkeys and big game hunter Van Pelt, are just some of the wild elements that the game unleashes – but it’s the impact it has on the characters and their community that are its most dangerous aspects.
The film grossed $263 million worldwide and received a mixed critical reception.
Universal Monsters and Jumanji have also been announced from the same review period.
