To celebrate 25 years of the animated fantasy comedy Shrek, the LEGO Group is launching 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots and 40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingy.
It was 25 years ago that Dreamworks Animation released Shrek, the animated movie featuring the voices of Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy. It sees the titular character living a life of self-imposed solitude, until he encounters Donkey and finds himself on a quest to restore justice to the fairytale world and defeat Lord Farquaad.
Two new LEGO sets will celebrate the movie and the franchise it spawned. Both will launch on June 1 and are available to preorder now at LEGO.com. Given how many fans have been waiting for these, they may sell out fast!
72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots uses 1,403 pieces and is priced at £109.99 / $129.99.
40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingy uses 259 pieces and is priced at £19.99 / $24.99.

The larger of the two builds, 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots, is intended as an adult display set as it features buildable models of Shrek and Donkey, plus a display base to place them on. Puss in Boots is depicted using a LEGO minifigure, taking advantage of the character’s smaller stature.
As you build the set, it looks like you will discover some clever part usage – Shrek’s ears are depicting use clip and bar pieces.
40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingy is part of the more accessible BrickHeadz theme, which has a stylised look that sometimes creates interesting results when combined with animated properties. It is made up of three characters – Shrek, Donkey and Gingy (the gingerbread character).
These sets follow a great run of Disney sets for adults that capture beloved animated characters and movies, including last year’s 43277 Cruella De Vil’s Car and 43279 WALL-E and EVE, then this year’s 43300 Winnie the Pooh and 43305 Piglet’s Birthday Fun.
“Shrek has always celebrated imagination, friendship and a little bit of mischief, which are values that translate perfectly into LEGO play,” says LEGO Creative Lead Raquel Ojeda. “We’re ogre the moon to partner with this beloved universe and see how fans build their own fairy-tale adventures. This is just the beginning, so keep your eyes peeled for lots more LEGO Shrek magic!”
“Partnering with the LEGO Group to introduce Shrek in LEGO brick form marks an exciting moment as we celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary,” said Universal Products & Experiences Consumer Products, Games & Digital Global Commercial Officer Rafa Macias. “These sets bring Far Far Away to life with innovative design, fun Easter eggs for fans to discover, and storytelling– honouring the legacy that has made Shrek a cultural icon and inviting fans back to the swamp where it all began.”
