LEGOLAND Billund Resort is launching Minifigure Speedway, a new duelling roller coaster that’s the first of its kind in Denmark — and there are prizes to be had for the first racers.
The latest attraction at LEGOLAND Billund is Minifigure Speedway, a roller coaster that pits two “teams” of riders against each other in a race to the finish line, and 12 lucky visitors who get to ride first will win LEGO Pokémon prizes.
Minifigure Speedway will open at LEGOLAND Billund on March 28, letting guests experience one of the largest investments in the park in recent years. The coaster has two sets of cars, letting riders race against each other as they go forwards and backwards at top speeds of 57 km/h along the 263-metre track, for an approximate ride time of 75 seconds. The ride is centred around a 12-metre statue of Roxie, the ride’s minifigure mascot, who will also join the ranks of costumed characters wandering the park.
There’s already a version of Minifigure Speedway at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, which should provide a good sense of what the Billund version will look like for fans eager to get a glimpse before the grand opening.
Teams are Team Legends or Team All Stars, and guests can choose their team before entering the ride. Presumably they are supposed to decide based on whichever they feel more strongly connected to, but the length of the queue is likely to be the deciding factor.
For the ride’s inaugural race on March 28, the first 12 guests in line at the main entrance to LEGOLAND Billund will be the ones representing Team Legends and Team All Stars (the official announcement makes clear sharing your place in the queue is a big no-no and you can’t leave and come back later). The race is scheduled for 9:15am.

The lucky 12 will have to be smart about which team they pick — the winning group will each receive a copy of 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, while the runners-up will get 72152 Pikachu and Poké Ball. So if you’re in the area and not too keen for the bragging rights of being part of the first race, the prizes might be an extra incentive…
Minifigure Speedway will be open for all guests following the high-stakes first race on March 28, though future riders won’t have prizes waiting for them at the end. For coaster enthusiasts, this might just be a reason to book a trip to LEGOLAND Billund.
