LEGO SMART Play London launch draws in little Star Wars fans

LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets launched in a big way on March 1, with children dressed as their favourite characters flocking to the LEGO Store at Leicester Square to be the first to try out the new way to play.

To celebrate the launch of LEGO SMART Play, LEGO Store Leicester Square hosted an event where children could test out the new sets alongside some Star Wars Stormtroopers.

After having been announced back in January, the LEGO SMART Play system has officially launched as of March 1. Eight LEGO Star Wars sets are part of the inaugural wave — three are ‘All-In-One’ sets that come with the new SMART Brick, while five are ‘compatible’ sets that come with the special SMART Minifigures and SMART Tags, but no brick (want further explanation?).

To commemorate the launch of these new sets, the Leicester Square LEGO Store held an event where children could play with the SMART Play sets. London’s little LEGO fans turned out in strong numbers, with many coming dressed up as their favourite characters from the galaxy far, far away. Some fans were even lined up for hours before the store opened to make sure they got a chance to be some of the first to play with the new sets.

“I’ve been waiting outside with my mum for hours because I want to be the first to try out the LEGO SMART Brick,” said Noah, aged 10, an eager fan. “It’s so cool that it reacts with lights and sounds, making everything more real!”

Entering the store, eager children were met by two Star Wars Stormtroopers flanking the door, adding to the special feeling of the day.
