LEGO Ideas has announced that The Old Man and the Sea, a project based on Ernest Hemingway’s novel of the same name, is moving to the Parking Lot for further review.
The Old Man and the Sea, a LEGO Ideas product idea by user Iyan Ha that was part of the first half 2025 review, is moving to the Parking Lot to undergo further review by the LEGO Ideas team to determine whether it will become an official LEGO Ideas set.
The LEGO Ideas Parking Lot was created in early 2025 and provides projects that need more time to determine whether they can be made into an official LEGO Ideas set the space to wait, as opposed to being fully rejected as they would have been in years past. While a project can need more time for a variety of reasons, the most common so far appears to be licensing concerns.

Iyan Ha’s model uses the original 1952 book as inspiration, capturing a fierce seafaring scene within the frame of an open book. Sloped and curved elements make for some torrential waves, though the focus of the build is on the ship and fish. The boat, home to a brave lone sailor, is a nice mix of square and rounded and comes with sails that have seen much better days. But the old man is still determined to take down the mighty fish, which is unquestionably the centrepiece of the model. In the concept, the fish is displayed in a highly dynamic pose, trying to fight out of the hook stuck in its mouth.
A setting sun then frames the back of the model nicely without detracting from the chaos of the water, and a minifigure scale version of the book gets a little side build that cleverly uses an old super jumper element as the base of the stand. Both the boat and the fish can be displayed independently of the book as well, the boat sitting flush on its own and the fish getting its own stand.
Daft Punk Concert, and The Golden Girls have also been put into the Parking Lot for further consideration. Six sets have been announced too – E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Downton Abbey, La Catrina, Ramen, Smurf Village and Go Go Power Rangers! Megazord.
A final decision on whether The Old Man and the Sea will become an official LEGO Ideas set is expected within the next few LEGO Ideas review results, so be sure to stayed tuned here and follow Blocks’ social media channels to keep up to date with all the latest LEGO Ideas news.
