There’s a new free LEGO set coming to the official LEGO online shop for spring – 40683 Flower Trellis Display.
Who needs a greenhouse anymore? You can have LEGO flowers all over your house and avoid all of the maintenance of real plants.
The latest set inspired by nature is 40683 Flower Trellis Display and it’s going to be available at LEGO.com from April 1 until April 16. If you spend £135 / $150 / €150 or more, you’ll get the set for free.
It’s a curious little model – four grated plates come together to form a trellis. Technic bricks are then connected to the trellis, which you then attach the various floral elements to. It’s a quirky model, as it uses a variety of elements that you wouldn’t typically associate with Botanical Collection sets.
Upgrade your LEGO hobby! If you take out a subscription to Blocks, the monthly LEGO magazine, you’ll get each issue first and at a discount, plus other perks including a free digital subscription and the chance to win LEGO prizes every month.
The flowers themselves are expertly built, using techniques reminiscent of those found in 10313 Wildflower Bouquet and similar. The yellow flower uses a variety of slope elements for each individual petal, which then come together to represent the flower.
The pink and purple flowers are simpler, with just one slope and one clip forming each petal. They complement the yellow flower well, being different in both size and hue.
This is one of those sets that’s great to get as a freebie, but you probably won’t put an order in just to get it. The trellis frame is a neat concept and it looks nice enough on display, but this doesn’t do anything different to the larger sets in the Botanical Collection. If you are planning on ordering some sets at LEGO.com though, this is well worth building and popping on a shelf.
SCORE: 62/100
VERDICT: A neat set that plays to the strengths of the Botanical Collection.
