Which LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary sets should you buy?

As Star Wars day and its many deals approach, marking 25 years of the collaboration between the LEGO Group and Lucasfilm, Blocks is suggesting which sets are the ones to get.

LEGO Star Wars is celebrating 25 years with an incredible wave of celebratory sets. The boxes all sport the special anniversary logo, with some also containing brand new minifigures that have never been produced before. There’s also a lot of focus on designs inspired by Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, with podracing and Sith ships making a comeback.

But with so many sets, which ones are the best to buy? While collectors might be tempted by the whole wave, not every fan has that kind of budget. Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, is breaking down which sets are the must-haves…

75381 Droideka

If you love the prequels or Star Wars: The Clone Wars then the new 75381 Droideka model is not one to be missed. The LEGO designers have never attempted it at this scale before, with previous System models only featuring versions that were minifigure-scaled. While they were recognisable, none of them could do what this model can – curl up and roll. The only set that has come to close to this before is 8002 Destroyer Droid – and that was released 24 years ago. This set looks more more in keeping with the theme’s modern aesthetic.

75377 Invisible Hand

Even Star Wars geeks might not know 75377 Invisible Hand very well, mainly because it’s never referred to by name in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The Invisible Hand is the flagship of General Grievous, which he acquired after losing his previous dreadnaught to a Republic attack led by Anakin Skywalker. It’s a very unusually shaped ship and it’s very unlikely that we’ll see it as a LEGO set again. Due to its sheer size and short screen time, there’s little chance that this would become a UCS or minifigure scale model, so this Starfighter Collection set is definitely worth picking up.

75378 BARC Speeder Escape

75378 BARC Speeder Escape is another set quite unlikely to get a remake. For some reason the Disney+ Star Wars series do not get much attention from the LEGO designers, so to have a set based on this crucial scene in Star Wars: The Mandalorian is surprising. Kelleran Beq started out as the Jedi Knight moonlighting as a gameshow host on Jedi Temple Challenge and is now the character who saved Grogu from Order 66. While the speeder might be oversized, this set is worth it just for the minifigures.

40675 Commander Cody

This is currently the cheapest of the anniversary sets and it makes the perfect investment. LEGO BrickHeadz appreciate quite considerably in value and they don’t take up much space. As the first Clone Trooper character to feature as a BrickHeadz and a fan favourite, , 40675 Commander Cody is certainly going to be collectible. It’s worth picking up two – one to build and display, while the other stays mint in storage.

75379 R2-D2

You’re probably thinking that you don’t need another R2-D2. The previous version from 2021 did an excellent job at recreating this plucky droid and is still the best version. But it’s not actually R2-D2 you need – it’s the minifigure included. Darth Malak is from Knights of the Old Republic, making him a very unique and highly collectible minifigure. Very rarely do fans get LEGO content from these classic video games, so Malak is worth either buying 75379 R2-D2 or the minifigure on resale. Darth Revan from 2014 is one of the most expensive Star Wars minifigures, so Malak is likely to follow a similar trend.
