The LEGO Group has a brand new partnership with Aardman Animations as they aim to inspire young filmmakers with a loveable interstellar alien.
Renowned for award-winning stop motion and claymation, Aardman Animations are the creators of Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and now the upcoming Boop. This is an animated short story in which an alien called Boop is transported to a world of LEGO bricks and meets new minifigure friends. But their journey is incomplete. So Aardman has partnered with the LEGO Group to inspire young builders to create their own ending to Boop’s story through the LEGO Play app.

Both companies want to inspire children to unleash their creativity and imagination through stop-motion storytelling using LEGO bricks. Children can using the animation tools within the LEGO Play app to share their own stories and enter into a chance to see their ideas featured in an upcoming Aardman project. They can share finished stories directly through the app and add #Boop when posting so the Aardman team can see it.
“To work with the iconic Aardman Animations is incredibly exciting, and we’re thrilled to see our two brands inspiring kids in this way for the first time,” says LEGO Senior Vice President of Digital Consumer Engagement Anna Rafferty. “We hope young builders find this a unique opportunity and, together with Aardman, we’re excited to explore more opportunities to collaborate together in the future.”

“It is safe to say that at Aardman we are all huge fans of the LEGO Group – so to get to collaborate with our dream partners has been a complete joy,” adds Aardman Chief Creative Director Sarah Cox. “Our partnership has been one of mutual respect, openness and a shared commitment to creativity and play which unites the brick and the clay.”
Aardman have created the one minute animated short to introduce Boop’s character, as well as 5 mini stop-motion challenge films which will release monthly to continue to encourage young LEGO fans to continue Boop’s adventures. Additionally, Director Magda Osinska (best known for her award-wining “I am Your Mother” short for Star Wars: Visions) will be hosting online workshops to inspire young filmmakers and provide supportive tutorials to help bring their imagination to life. The LEGO Play app is available to download for both iOS and Android phones or tablets.

This collaboration between the LEGO Group and Aardman Animations follows the recent announcement that Wallace & Gromit will be getting a LEGO set, which is expected to release in 2026.
