When Harry visits the Ministry of Magic to attend his hearing for using magic whilst under age, he is struck by the large Fountain of Magical Brethren in the Atrium. The golden statues of a wizard, witch, centaur, goblin and house-elf together represent the harmony of the Wizarding World.
In the Harry Potter films, the wizard statue is split from the others and stands on a pedestal alone, whilst the rest stand as a fountain. The wizard statue is included in the new 76476 The Ministry of Magic – Collectors’ Edition, while 40901 Ministry Munchies & The Daily Prophet Stands provides a complementary model that expands the atrium.

40901 is split into three sections – the Ministry Munchies stand, Daily Prophet stand and the fountain area. The Daily Prophet stand includes printed 2×2 newspaper tiles with the headline ‘The Boy Who Lies?’, an element that has not been included in a set since 2023’s 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank – Collectors’ Edition. A stickered tile asks ‘Dumbledore: Daft or Dangerous?’, referencing the Ministry’s smear campaign against the Hogwarts Headmaster during the events of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
The Ministry Munchies stand is more substantial than the Daily Prophet one. Dark red panel pieces hide a brick that lifts the display section from the base, giving the stand a varied shape.
The brick-built cake on the stand is reminiscent of the one prepared by Mrs Dursley in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the destruction of which leads to Harry receiving a warning for using magic outside of Hogwarts whilst under-age. Cupcakes and cookies are also available for peckish Ministry employees.
To build the fountain, you attach two half round plates attach onto the shorter sides of an 8×8 corner wedge to form the base. The fountain has a lower section that contains a pool of water and a higher section featuring a witch statue. Only the hair piece is new to pearl gold.
40901 Ministry Munchies & The Daily Prophet Stands includes two minifigures, excluding the statue. There was consternation when fans realised that 76476 The Ministry of Magic – Collectors’ Edition is missing Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic for most of the Harry Potter books.
Fudge has only appeared in two sets before this one and 76457 Hogsmeade Village – Collectors’ Edition offered a particularly poor iteration, using a generic head that looks far too young. The head here is the one created for Jean-Luc Picard in 10356 Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, which is certainly an improvement.
A Daily Prophet Vendor is also included. The torso was created for the Martin Brody minifigure in 21350 Jaws, continuing the economical use of minifigure parts from other licensed sets.
The irony is that there isn’t really space in the 76476 The Ministry of Magic – Collectors’ Edition atrium to add all of 40901’s component parts without overly cramping what should be a large and splendid space. The free LEGO set is good for those who care about the Ministry’s design so want to create an atrium that is accurate to the movie design and for those who want to add Fudge to their display.

VERDICT: The Ministry-themed extras are fun, and the Cornelius Fudge minifigure is much improved on his predecessor, but all together 40901 is not an essential addition to 76476 The Ministry of Magic – Collectors’ Edition.
