LEGO Group continues grant funding for Virginia nonprofits

The LEGO Group has announced its continued support for communities in the Greater Richmond, Virginia, area, including extended funding for six organisations and new funding for two additional groups.

Ahead of its first US-based factory in decades opening in 2027 in Virginia, the LEGO Group has been supporting local nonprofit organisations in the area, and has announced it will continue to do so.

Since 2022, the LEGO Group has given more than $3.5 million in grants to a variety of nonprofit organisations that collectively support more than one million children. Grants are awarded in a two-year period and are designed to support children’s learning and development through play.

The two new organisations to receive grants are:

  • Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, where therapeutic play helps to decrease pain and shorten recovery time
  • Girls for a Change, which supports bridging the gender divide in STEAM

“We are proud to support the work of these incredible organisations that help make a difference in children’s lives every day,” said LEGO Manufacturing General Manager Jesus Ibanez. “As we continue to build our factory, we become increasingly rooted in the community, and we’re dedicated to making a positive impact and bringing play to more children in the area.”

Already, 300 of the LEGO Group’s Virginia-based employees have participated in community engagement programs, spending over 2,000 hours in 2025 serving programs in support of environmental restoration, youth education and more.

LEGO Manufacturing Virginia is scheduled to open in 2027 in Chesterfield County and is expected to create over 1,700 jobs in the region. An accompanying regional distribution centre will open in nearby Prince George, further supporting both the local economy and the LEGO Group’s supply chain in North America.
