Five X-Men team members fans need as minifigures

With 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion expanding the LEGO Marvel world, Blocks is picking out five more members of the mutant squad who fans need to really make this corner of the multiverse feel complete.

The recently revealed 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion includes 10 minifigures. Some of these LEGO characters are new, like Gambit, Iceman and Bishop, but quite a few are repeats, which is a shame given there’s a host of other X-Men team members who could and should be realised as minifigures. There have been many fantastic X-Men characters through the years and a full LEGO Marvel collection needs more of them – here are five that fans would love to see in the near future to complement 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion…

Angel

With the release of the X-Mansion, Angel (aka Warren Worthington III) is the only original X-Men member yet to be made into a minifigure. A wing element for minifigures was introduced in the 1990s, so it has been relatively easy for builders to create this character, but it’d be lovely to get an official version to add to 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion (and maybe an alternative face for THAT transformation… if you know, you know). Perhaps Angel would be a bit of a boring addition when there are so many other characters with more exciting abilities out there, but he is essential to the history of the X-Men, and that centrality should soon be recognised with a minifigure.

Emma Frost

Emma Frost’s relationship with the X-Men has been tempestuous, as sided with and fought alongside the Hellfire Club. Since then, however, she’s often been a key figure in the X-Men roster and had an important relationship with Cyclops. Whilst Frost’s looks tend to be rather racy, her recent appearance in LEGO Fortnite shows that designers have already given some thought to how she might appear in LEGO form. What would be particularly exciting, however, would be if her secondary mutation, the ability to turn her skin into diamonds, would also be represented – it’d be a minifigure to remember, although you’d expect no less from the White Queen.

Jubilee

Jubilee is a fan-favourite character, mostly thanks to her central position in X-Men: The Animated Series from the 1990s, in which she was a substitute for the audience as she was introduced to the eXtraordinary world. Jubilee is an easy character to fall in love with, whether it be her bubbly personality, trademark yellow trench-coat or spectacular powers that enable her to create fireworks (or, to use the technical term, pyrotechnic energy plasmoids), the last of which would be a truly colourful addition to any LEGO set. Multi-coloured energy effect pieces? Yes please. She’d be a lit minifigure and the design is already there in LEGO Fortnite

Forge

Forge’s mutant power grants him the ability to create anything from technology – essentially, he’s the ultimate builder with a mechanical tint. Forge’s powers give him infinite opportunities and possibility, but how can that be recreated in LEGO form? It’d be best if Forge appeared as a side character in a set focused on a vehicle or machine – maybe a Danger Room diorama – as otherwise it will just be a litany of silver grey accessories to accompany this charming genius. Forge would make a very cool minifigure – his cybernetic right leg, left hand and eye could all be represented with some detailed printing.

Nightcrawler

Maybe the most missed minifigure in the X-Mansion is Kurt Wagner, also known as Nightcrawler, another fan-favourite who made an immediate impression in the opening of X2: X-Men United film in 2003 and became a permanent team member in the recently revived X-Men ’97. Nightcrawler’s teleportation power means he might be best served by being included in a diorama that’s dotted with brick-built bamfs. He’d be a highly distinctive minifigure, whether it be his blue skin, his wild mop of hair, his tail or even dual-wielding scimitars – all of these features would be easy to recreate with the current LEGO piece catalogue.

76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion launches at LEGO.com on November 1.
