Fans will be able to get a new LEGO Ideas set for free very soon – 40889 Build, Paint & Play!, which includes a Classic Space astronaut, will be available as of October 28.
LEGO Ideas 40889 Build, Paint and Play! is going to be free at LEGO.com when you spend more than £115 / $130, starting October 28. It is a 158 piece set that includes a Classic Space astronaut in teal. No end date has been specified, but you should act quickly to be sure you get the bonus freebies.
The set builds a model kit that is waiting to be built and painted, including the cutting tool, sprue, glue, paint and brushes. Each bottle of paint is labelled with the relevant LEGO colour and number, with a teal Classic Space astronaut minifigure (previously only available in 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine) hinting at what the final painted model will look like.

40889 Build, Paint and Play! is the winning build from the Build Your Hobby challenge. Entrants were asked to create models based on everyday activities that people do to wind down and relax, whether that was the usual painting, reading or baking, to more adventurous hobbies such as skiing or even trying to become a budding stop-motion filmmaker. Fans could craft any hobby as an object, diorama or scene – the only limit was that the finished model had to be between 200 and 250 pieces.
A panel of judges picked out 15 finalists and then fans voted for the grand prize winner, which was ‘Doomslizer’ with the concept that became 40889 Build, Paint and Play!
Doomslizer based their creation on their love for model kits and building LEGO sets. “My build features all of the essentials to make a model come to life, including a cutting board to work on and a decal sheet to add details,” they explained. “First you cut the pieces free from the sprue, then glue them together and paint the model however you want. You can either play a game with it or display it proudly.”
To get 40889 Build, Paint and Play! for free, you need to spend £115 / $130 or more from October 28, 2026.

If you spend your free time gaming, 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade recreates the classic game as Jumpman has to climb and leap over the barrels to save Lady. It has working controls for Donkey Kong to throw barrels at the beloved hero and moving the joysticks allows the early depiction of Mario to avoid the projectiles.
31221 Gustav Klimt – The Kiss is an intricate rendition of the famous work that uses a myriad of yellow tiles for the golden robes the subjects are wearing. Foliage elements and colourful dots suggest the impressionist wildflowers throughout the painting.
