Professional LEGO designers and TT Games developers collaborated to make sure that the playable Batmobiles in the upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight match the actual sets that are being released..
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will allow players to explore the streets of Gotham City, from the back alleys to the bustling thoroughfare outside Wayne Tower, so the Caped Crusader will need a way to get around. There will be a Batcave full of iconic Batmobiles and bikes for players to utilise throughout missions and the open world.
As TT Games collaborated closely with the LEGO Group, three of the vehicles in the game are also sets that will be released next year. 76331 Batman v Superman Batmobile, 76332 The Batman Batmobile and 76333 Batman & Robin Batmobile will all feature an exclusive code inside the box that can then be redeemed in the game to unlock special extras. These models bridge the gap between physical bricks and digital renditions, with the developers determined to make them as authentic as possible in the game itself.

“Part of my role is being the person who speaks to the LEGO designers and makes sure we’re getting information about the sets as soon as we can,” says TT Games Executive Producer Matt Ellis, who was thrilled to be able to incorporate these physical sets within LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. “Because of strict timing, you have to make it work to line up with when we’re making stuff in game. So it’s just about communication, sharing as much information as possible – hopefully opportunities like this work out and you’re able to do it.”
But LEGO sets and games are entirely separate worlds, with completely different physics, what can look good in a graphical space could easily be breaking the rules for a model. “These ones are at the scale that they are in game. So these are 1:1,” says Matt, referring to how these three Batmobiles are nearly identical in the game and as products. “But obviously a lot of the different Batmobile sets are at a different scale, so they had to be rebuilt or reworked to fit a scale that’s going to be consistent in-game. So that is something that we go through a process of working with the LEGO Group to make sure that the design language is kept the same.”

“We worked closely with TT games as we have different timelines and had to keep each other updated a lot about progress and rebuilds,” explains LEGO Model Designer Tin Nguyen. “But we have to ensure to make the best products possible and TT Games has to make sure that they can make the nicest product in the game. I think we did both.”
Choosing to focus on the scale and shape of the car helped the team to decide upon the focus for these sets as well. Each one notably only comes with a Batman minifigure, even though previous Batmobile sets have typically included a villain. “From the start the brief was only the car,” says LEGO Senior Model Designer Adam Grabowski. “These sets are all meant a little bit more for display, so there are no stud shooters in these. And it was actually quite clear from the start that there would be no villain with them.”

But while there are no villains in these sets, the Batman minifigures are all exclusive and unlockable skins in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. “We’ve got the new Batman v Superman minifigure and he’s got a new shoulder piece element, new torso, new legs,” explains LEGO Senior Graphic Designer Mark Tranter, who points out every new feature. “We have The Batman again and he’s got a brand new torso and new legs. Then we have Batman from Batman & Robin, again with newly printed dual moulded legs and a new cowl.”
Another notable element is that currently the tie-in sets are all Batmobiles, even though Batman uses a myriad of zany vehicles throughout the comics and films. This is a deliberate choice to reflect the gameplay. “We’re just limiting ourselves to ground vehicles and bikes,” says Matt. “We don’t have any flying vehicles, so the player will mainly be traversing by grappling around and gliding. The ground vehicles are more Batmobiles, because there’s a wealth of Batmobiles and Batbikes.”

Even with a multitude of Batmobiles to unlock in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, if fans don’t want to buy all of these sets, it will not impact any gameplay achievements. “We’ve made sure it doesn’t count towards 100% completion. It’s just an extra thing that’s separate from everything else,” continues Matt, reiterating that the redeemable codes are purely for cosmetic items. “You’re not going to have a collection of Batmobiles [in the game] and three holes in it. It’s just something extra for people who have purchased these sets.”
There will also be something extra with the newly announced 76300 Batman Logo – a gold Batman minifigure that is redeemable in the game.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the upcoming action-adventure video game from TT Games that will explore Bruce Wayne’s rise to Gotham’s hero. As the connection with physical products suggests, a big part of the game will be driving around in the Batmobile. Players will be able to explore an open world through Gotham City’s iconic streets, facing a roster of DC villains like The Penguin and Mr Freeze, with a brand new combat system that uses fluid combos and stealth. The game promises to offer the opportunity to solve puzzles like a true detective, use Batman’s iconic cape to glide between skyscrapers and unlock over 100 suits for the Batcave. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is releasing in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and the Epic GamesStore.
