The LEGO Group has built the largest LEGO brick mural in Singapore to celebrate the country’s 60th birthday.
To honour Singapore’s 60th anniversary, the LEGO Group has constructed a LEGO brick mural inspired by the country’s history — the largest mural in the country built from LEGO bricks.
The mural was constructed in partnership with the National Museum of Singapore, with the goal of creating a “hyperlocal and immersive” experience for visitors, showcasing the country’s history through an interactive mural design. Most of the 265,743 LEGO bricks that make up the mural were constructed by a dedicated team, but the final pieces were left for the public to place.
Revealed on July 18, the mural’s debut coincided with the start of National Day Celebrations at the National Museum of Singapore, which will run through August 9 — Singapore’s National Day. During that time, guests at the museum will be able to check out the mural, which features a variety of buildings, all filled with elegant details intended to evoke the country’s rich heritage. Specifically, these colourful buildings were designed to represent the shophouses present in Singapore back in the 1960s. Though the centre buildings were left unfinished for the reveal; guests were welcomed to help complete the record-breaking display.

Guests could build one of the last sections, each being eight studs by eight studs and conveniently numbered to help the process be as fun and smooth as possible. And the result is more than impressive — the mural has been officially recognised by the Singapore Book of Records.
“Our Singapore story is a shared one,” said Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry upon the mural’s unveiling. “It is fitting that we commemorate SG60 by coming together as a community in celebration of our unique identity, culture and heritage. This record-breaking mural is symbolic of our strength and unity — brick by brick, every Singaporean has helped build this nation we call home. I am delighted to see this partnership between the LEGO Group and the National Museum of Singapore, which invites all Singaporeans to celebrate our nation’s journey and contribute to our shared story.
“LEGO bricks and play have long been a tool for storytelling and imagination, able to connect generations and inspire pride in creations,” added Ágnes Molnár, Marketing Director of Singapore, Malaysia and APAC Travel Retail at the LEGO Group. “We are honoured to partner with the National Museum of Singapore to celebrate SG60 and the country’s community spirit with visitors of all ages through the universal language of play and creativity.”

And that spirit isn’t stopping with the mural. The National Museum of Singapore’s Stamford Gallery is hosting all sorts of LEGO brick creations through August 9. 3D LEGO models of the country are on display alongside the mural, which include recreations of the Changi Airport Control Tower and Bumboats along the Singapore River. Representations of iconic Singaporean dishes are on display, as well, such as Hainanese Chicken Rice and Chilli Crab. Additional brick-built artworks made by the Chinese Development Assistance Council can be found, too. Guests who attend the exhibition will also have a chance to build a mini LEGO orchid as a Make & Take activity.
