LEGO Ideas is bringing Vikings back

The LEGO Group has official announced an extra Ideas set that will be exclusive to Target in the USA – Viking Village.

In addition to the regular LEGO Ideas sets that are released each year, the LEGO Group teamed up with Target to ask fans to pick from three product ideas that had previously made it to 10,000 votes but had not been selected.

Working Mini Golf Course, Viking Village and Marine Life were offered in a fan poll. Here are the final vote tallies that saw Viking Village beat the other two;

    Working Mini Golf Course – Fully Playable by LEGOParadise – 11,575
    Viking Village by BrickHammer – 16,317
    Marine Life by Brick Dangerous – 6,732

Florian ‘BrickHammer’ only rediscovered the LEGO hobby in 2020 but has already been active in submitting MOCs to Ideas.

To get Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, every month – at a discount and earlier than the shops – order a 12-month or 24-month subscription. Direct debit payment options are available too; to find out more get in touch via subs@silverbackpublishing.rocks.

‘Even though the Viking Village does not try to depict a realistic historic Viking village, the idea for the project was actually sparked by my own studies at university,’ he told the Ideas team. ‘One of the main topics of one of my final exams was the Norman conquest of 1066 and the influence it had on Anglo-Saxon society. As a result of reading several books about Norman (French) culture and its origins in Danish Viking culture, I just had to create a Viking MOC.’

The LEGO Ideas team see this product’s win as a demonstration that fans want the classic LEGO Vikings theme back. The build will now be developed as an official release model.

A release date will be announced later, for now fans can simply patiently await this new set – or keep themselves busy with the nostalgia packed 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle and 10497 Galaxy Explorer.
