A new set is coming from LEGO Ideas – and it’s the mighty kaiju Godzilla, icon of the silver screen.
Many fans have built Godzilla from LEGO bricks through the years and now the famous movie monster is going to be released as an official set. LEGO Ideas has announced that Matthew Esposito’s MOC, which was voted for on the platform by 10,000 users, will be adapted to become an official model. It has been confirmed for release alongside Tintin Space Rocket.
No price is available yet, the set is expected to be released in 2026. The fan design uses between 2,500 and 3,000 bricks, but the official model could use whatever number of elements the professional designers need.
The first Godzilla film was directed and co-written by Ishirō Honda. It released in 1954 and through the years there have been many adaptations featuring the character. The enormous, threatening monster is a prehistoric monster that lives at least partially in the sea, leading to iconic shots of Godzilla emerging to terrify the mainland.

Matthew’s journey to building this model began during the coronavirus lockdowns. “I was left inside with my family, unable to go out for numerous months,” he told Ideas. “This, ironically, actually inspired me to get back in touch with my LEGO hobby, as at the time, I was more focused on my college coursework than building LEGO sets. This was the initial inspiration to get back into MOC building, as I couldn’t go out to buy official sets.
“The main inspiration for the idea of a LEGO Godzilla build came from when I heard the news of the Kong vs. Godzilla movie coming out the following year, in 2021. I had already initially gained an interest in Godzilla the moment the first Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla hit theatres in 2014, so the interest was always there for me. But then I got to thinking about potentially making a LEGO Godzilla model the moment I heard the news of the newer movie hitting theatres in 2021 and the rest is history.”
The head is a distinctive part of the model – and Matthew put a lot of thought into it, changing it many times as he crafted the towering kaiju. “I updated my model to where I ended up using a newer and better design for the head, which is the design that it’s currently using and the same design for when I reached 10,000 supporters.”
Sebastian Veselka’s Downton Abbey and Fuma Terai’s Camping Trip build have been placed in the Parking Lot and will be considered by the LEGO Group for potential future release.
