LEGO DC Super Heroes 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile revealed

76355 Batman Returns Batmobile may be the second super-sized LEGO model of the iconic vehicle from Tim Burton’s films, but this version packs a missile-sized punch.

One of the most beloved cinematic vehicles of all time is getting a new LEGO DC Super Heroes Batman set – Michael Keaton’s Batmobile as seen in Batman Returns.

Releasing on September 1, 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile contains 2,269 pieces and will be priced at £189.99 / $229.99 / €209.99.

The new set follows up the hugely popular 76139 1989 Batmobile from 2019. That model is made up of 3,306 pieces, 1,037 more than the new one – and measures almost 7 inches longer – but it didn’t contain a Batmissile.

Inspired by the transformation sequence in the 1992 film, 76355 incorporates a play function that detaches the Batmobile’s side panels and turns Bruce Wayne’s car into a sleek escape vehicle. By pressing a button above the rear exhaust port, the Batmobile’s sides fall away to reveal the Batmissile hidden within.

What’s more, this standout feature doesn’t looks like it impedes the dramatic display presence of the Batmobile. Key areas like the jet turbine intake, rear exhaust and mechanical details along the sides of the car in both standard and Batmissile forms look to be as complex as the 18+ branding suggests. Other features include hidden guns and an opening cockpit, which seems to slide forward as seamlessly as it did in 2019.

The set includes a brand-new Batman minifigure based on Michael Keaton’s portrayal in Batman Returns. A new piece has been developed specifically for this set, a cape and cowl element similar to the 2019 minifigure, but with the cape now wrapped around Batman’s shoulders. Unfortunately the set doesn’t include a Penguin minifigure based on Danny DeVito, although he’s referenced on a stickered monitor in the cockpit.

The LEGO Group states that three new parts were designed for 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile, one of which is the new minifigure cowl. The windshield piece looks like a new sculpt as well, while the rear tires return from the 2019 set after originally being designed for 76023 Tumbler in 2014. One or two of the slope pieces also appear to be new– have a look above the front tyres and let us know what you think.

Batman Returns released in 1992 as the sequel to the 1989 Batman film directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton in the titular role. The movie introduced a pair of iconic villains, with the Penguin and Catwoman stepping into the space previously occupied by Jack Nicholson’s Joker. Burton’s films kicked off a spectacular run for Batman in live-action cinema, with the latest film starring the Caped Crusader currently in production for a 2028 release – namely, the hotly-anticipated and often-delayed The Batman – Part II.

Batman Returns is rare (although not entirely new) territory for the LEGO Group. The enormous 3,981-piece 76252 BatcaveShadow Box set, which released in 2023 and retired less than two years later, depicted a creative hidden display piece centring on Keaton’s Batcave. Set behind a brick-built hollow Batman logo, the Batcave from Batman Returns featured clever remotely-activated functions like a swappable computer screen, swivel chair and opening doors for Batsuit storage.

That set includes much more than a single Batman minifigure: to this day, it’s the only way to get minifigures of Burton’s Penguin and Catwoman, which currently cost a minimum of £111 and £33 respectively on BrickLink. If there’s one thing 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile is missing, it’s a more affordable rendition of everyone’s favourite fish-themed villain!

2026 is the 20th anniversary of LEGO Batman and Warner Bros. launched a sprawling, nostalgic video game to celebrate. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight released earlier this year to positive reviews, blending countless iterations of Batman together to create the ultimate gaming experience. Special 20th anniversary products released in March included a range of Batmobiles based on Batman & Robin, Batman v Superman and The Batman (76331 Batman v Superman Batmobile, 76332 The Batman Batmobile and 76333 Batman & Robin Batmobile) in addition to a buildable 76330 Batman Logo with an exclusive gold-coloured Batman minifigure.
