As Fortnite expands once again with the new LEGO Fortnite games, Blocks has some tips for new players…
Epic Games and the LEGO Group have collaborated to bring a new version of Fortnite that is available to play right now on all consoles and PC – for free! LEGO Fortnite is a survival game all about collecting resources, upgrading your tools and making your village a cosy place to live for a zany cast of characters. It’s a totally new genre for LEGO gaming and a complete change from the action-adventure titles that have come before.
So, what do you do if you’re new to survival games? Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, has some handy tips to help get you started.
Make yourself an awesome team
Recruiting non-playable characters (NPCs) early on in the game is a massive help. LEGO Fortnite is all about collaboration and these characters will help protect you from deadly wildlife, collect resources for you… even go on quests if you ask them to.
Pick up the LEGO poo elements
Yes, you read that right. In LEGO Fortnite these elements are considered fertiliser, which is a key ingredient for making garden patches for planting seeds. So whenever you see some farm animals, make sure to go digging in the dirt.
Don’t get your workstations wet
If it’s raining then workstations that are outdoors can’t be used. Make sure when you’re building them that they are under cover. You can do this by putting them inside one of your shacks, or even build a space solely for these essential items.
Fight the sea life!
You don’t have to feel bad about attacking shell rollers because they will attack you first! Defeating these crabby creatures unlocks shell elements which are essential for upgrading your tools and work stations.

It’s cuddling time
There are several types of farm animals throughout LEGO Fortnite and each one loves to be petted. By giving them a cuddle you’ll unlock exclusive resources including milk and wool. Top tip – leave a vine lying around to make the chickens stand still for petting them to get eggs.
Sniff around some ruins
No matter what biome you decide on for your island, there are abandoned villages and ruins to explore. These locations are often guarded by predators, so be wary, but the chests full of rewards are worth it.
Don’t go into caves alone
While it might be tempting to do some solo adventuring, do not go into caves without a team of NPCs. There are skeletons, scorpions, spiders, and basically it’s a trap without backup. This is where you’ll find iron ore and other rare resources, but make sure you’re prepared before venturing into the dark.
LEGO Fortnite is filled with possibilities for creativity and adventuring.
