Fans can have their builds displayed in Billund’s LEGO House

LEGO Ideas has announced three new challenges that give builders a chance to have their models displayed in the LEGO House, the destination in the heart of Billund.

Builders who participate in one, or all, of LEGO Ideas’ three new challenges will have the chance to have their builds on display at LEGO House in Billund — and get plenty of LEGO sets. The challenge is open now and will run through July 8.

LEGO Ideas began its challenges back in 2017 as a fun way to engage the fan community and grant some extra opportunities to have fan designs become official LEGO sets or gifts-with-purchase. Challenges fast became one of the platform’s most popular aspects, and LEGO Ideas is now celebrating its 100th challenge in a big way by partnering with LEGO House, offering three categories to give builders a chance to see their designs on display in Billund. Read on for full descriptions of each category!

While posted as three separate challenges, each one has the same prizes and timeframe — the only difference are the themes, giving builders some choice in determining their best shot at winning. A grand prize winner in each category will receive: 21037 LEGO House, 40506 LEGO Fabuland Tribute, 40501 The Wooden Duck, 40504 A Minifigure Tribute, two tickets to LEGO House and a brick-built trophy. A runner-up winner for each category will receive a smaller pool of sets and two tickets.

But perhaps the best part about the challenges is that you don’t have to be the grand prize or runner-up winner to get your model on display — more than 75 select winners will join the exhibition in LEGO House and receive a copy of 21037 LEGO House along with two tickets. So what are the three challenge categories?

If It Runs on Rails asks builders to construct any sort of vehicle that can travel on tracks, whether it be a classic train, sci-fi tram or medieval monorail. The trick is to fit a creative and unique build on a set of tracks — easier said than done!

Under the Microscope is challenging builders to get small — though you definitely don’t have to build in micro scale. The challenge suggests tackling the inside of an everyday object, building a model of a tiny animal or imagining microscopic LEGO bricks.

And finally, 20,000 Bricks Under the Sea is more than just a goofy parody of the classic novel — it tasks builders with designing something that could be found in the swaths of unexplored ocean underneath the waves. Whether that’s a realistic sea creature, futuristic submarine or lost civilisation is up to you.

No matter which category you choose to build in (or if you tackle all three), you build will have to be between 16×8 studs and 64×32 studs while being no more than 60 bricks high. And that’s a strict requirement – there can be no overhang that goes beyond 64×32 or it won’t fit in the cabinets. But if your base is smaller, you can overhang a little bit for some dramatic effect.

If you think you have the building know-how to join the LEGO House exhibition, all three challenges are open now and will run to July 8, 2025. The submission pages and specific terms and conditions can be found over on the challenge tab of ideas.lego.com. Good luck!
