Few vessels make an entrance quite like the Executor. In Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader’s flagship casts a shadow over the enormous Imperial Star Destroyers, demonstrating how the Dark Lord likes to intimidate his enemies and his underlings.
The LEGO Group’s 21065 Sagrada Família takes that complexity seriously. With an astonishing 12,060 pieces, it is the largest LEGO set ever released by piece count. The set recreates the basilica’s intricate exterior and even its colourful stained glass effects. It is a remarkable achievement, but also a rather substantial commitment of money, space, time and bricks. That makes it a great set for a much more manageable miniature interpretation.
Reducing such an intricate building to a handful of elements presents a challenge. The towers in particular are covered in texture and smooth cylinders would have lost much of the character that makes the actual structure so distinctive.
