LEGO Super Mario minifigures coming in 2027

The LEGO Group and Nintendo have announced that LEGO Super Mario minifigures will debut in 2027.

Ever since the LEGO Group started to produce licensed Nintendo sets, fans have been clamouring for Super Mario minifigures. Now, the companies have announced that little Mario characters will debut next year. “Building his way to a new adventure!” the LEGO Group declared.

The news follows the announcement of LEGO Super Mario 72050 Mario KartLuigi & Mach 8, which is available to preorder ahead of its April 1 release. The set is designed to go with 72037 Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart.

Eagle-eyes fans have noticed that LEGO.com is listing the various Super Mario play sets as retiring soon. The theme launched in 2020 with a digital Super Mario figure scaled much larger than a minifigure. The interactive character links with a companion app, while the compatible sets that launched initially feature many large, often simplified pieces, with the idea being to build a physical game course to bounce Mario around.

In the last few years the sets have involved more significant building, with recent waves focusing on Mario Kart. While deep LEGO fans have insisted that their desire is for minifigure scale sets, the LEGO Group has reported successful sales from the digital figure compatible sets.

It seems that things will be shifting though and presumably next year’s Super Mario sets will be minifigure scale – unless the social tease is for a series of Collectible Minifigures. Other franchises such as Looney Tunes have had blind box series without any minifigure scale sets alongside. Nintendo fans should definitely stay curious for 2027!
