LEGO Icons 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C brings historic racer to the brick

LEGO Icons has unveiled the latest large car model and it’s 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C.

LEGO Icons 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C will be made up of 1,241 pieces for £139.99 / $159.99 / €149.99 and release on July 1, 2025.

LEGO Icons has become a home for large scale car models since the theme launched in 2022, so far having offered the likes of 10321 Corvette and 10295 Porsche 911. And now the British-manufactured Shelby Cobra is joining the lineup.

Introduced by British manufacturer AC Cars in 1962, the Shelby Cobra began life in the United Kingdom before later crossing the pond to the United States. It’s the US release that gave the Shelby Cobra its name — it was called the AC Cobra back in the UK. The model 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C is based on began its production in 1965, intended to be a racing car for the Shelby team.

But production missed the deadline for the 1965 season, and only 56 of the intended 100 cars were ever produced. Of those made for competition, 31 remained unsold and were detuned and given windshields for use on everyday streets. And this is where the S/C designation comes from — semi-competition. With only 31 ever produced, the original Shelby Cobra 427 S/Cs can sell for approximately $1.5 million, making it one of the most valuable Cobra cars. And with stardom like that, it makes perfect sense as to why the vehicle is joining the ranks of LEGO Icons.

The LEGO recreation of the car features the famous blue and white colour scheme, complete with silver highlights. There’s even a hint of gold around the front grille, thanks to two cleverly placed hot dog elements. Clever part usage in fact dots the entire model: teacups serve as the rearview mirrors and ice skates flank the license plate. And instead of the set number serving as the license plate number (as is typical for many a LEGO car), 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C boasts a plate with 427 SC, leaving no doubt as to what the iconic car is.

Brick-built solutions create the white racing stripe, while the small blue strip cutting through is represented via decorated elements, though whether those are printed or stickered is unclear.

As an 18+ LEGO Icons set, the model is mostly intended for display, but there’s a handful of features and moving parts included to make taking the car for a spin all the more tempting. The doors can open (though a minifigure will struggle to reach the pedals), as can the boot and bonnet. A toolbox is included to store in the boot and a fire extinguisher can slot neatly between the two seats.

But perhaps the most exciting feature is the functioning steering. With the help of Technic elements, the steering wheel can control the front wheels and give the car a much smoother ride as you take it for a lap around the dining room table to celebrate finishing the build. The angled wheels can also make for a bit more dynamic of a display when it’s resting on your shelf.

From the initial images, 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C seems like it will be a worthy addition to the LEGO Icons lineup — stay tuned to Blocks magazine for a full review of the set once it releases.
