10358 Transformers: Soundwave will be the first ever LEGO Decepticon

A new LEGO Icons Transformers set is coming – 10358 Transformers: Soundwave will be the first Decepticon made as a LEGO set, coming complete with transforming functionality and a sound brick.

10358 Transformers: Soundwave will release on August 1, 2025, for £159.99 / $189.99 / €179.99 and come with 1,505 pieces – one of which will be a sound brick.

Soundwave is one of the original Transformers characters, originating from the initial Transformers line and television series in 1984, serving as a secondary antagonist beneath the ultimate villain, Megatron. The character often functions as a communications officer, fitting with his name and sound-based design — he transforms not into a vehicle, but into a cassette recorder.

10358 Transformers: Soundwave will come with 1,505 pieces, with the majority going into building the Decepticon and handful reserved for small side builds.

Soundwave will stand 33cm (13in) tall and 18cm (7in) wide when in his robot form, condensing to about a third of that height when in his transformed, cassette player form. Just like previous LEGO Transformers, converting between the two forms can be done without any disassembly, making the process as seamless as possible. There appears to be a fair bit of articulation in Soundwave’s robot form, offering movement at the shoulders, elbows and neck. Some leg articulation might be possible, but initial images suggest a more static design for the lower body to ensure model stability. The knees do bend, but it seems to be more in service of the transformation function than posing Soundwave in robot form.

The main attraction of Soundwave’s design is the cassette bay built into his chest. It uses a clear element decorated with the Decepticon logo and can open up to fit brick-built cassette tapes, which themselves hide a little surprise; they, too can transform, becoming Ravage and Laserbeak. Both can be built at once, though only one will fit in the cassette bay at a time.

Just below the cassette bay is a play button, which is more than just decoration. The set comes with a sound brick — the same element that allows 10334 Retro Radio to actually play music. Hitting the play button will activate Soundwave’s sound brick, playing specially recorded voice lines and sound effects.

Other side builds include a rocket pod, laser blaster and darts, as well as a display plaque. The plaque has some information about Soundwave printed in the same style used for 10302 Optimus Prime and 10338 Bumblebee, reminiscent of LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series sets. The plaque is accompanied by a mini representation of Soundwave in his cassette player form.

10358 Transformers: Soundwave will be available for everyone on LEGO.com and in LEGO stores starting on August 1, 2025.
