Considering how many different types of dragons have been introduced in NINJAGO, it is incredible that designers can still come up with original looking creatures. It has happened again though – 71832 Thunderfang Dragon of Chaos presents an entirely new beast. Standing on its hind legs, tail and wings splayed out behind, everything about this creature’s red and purple body screams menace.
Thunderfang’s unique physique inspired this build, which shrinks the form down to something smaller, but no less evil looking.
The trickiest part is mimicking the dragon’s bent over, two-legged gait without it tipping over. The full-sized dragon uses its enormous tail and wings as a counterbalance. However, that isn’t an option here because the necessary articulation in the wings for them to bend backward can’t be achieved without ball joints – and those are too big, even at this scale. Careful placement of legs and arms prevents tipping, giving the creature a balance point.
