Of all the DC characters, Batman has proven the most flexible for screen adaptation. No matter how many versions of his story are told, they all offer a different take and enjoy varying degrees of success.
Batman: The Animated Series stands out though, as the 1990s series delivered a show for children that didn’t pander to them. To match the sophisticated storytelling, it had a unique visual style that has been described as ‘dark deco’.
This was reflected in its distinctive Batmobile. An elongated form with flared fins on the back and multiple exhaust vents at its front, this car was the definitive version of Batman’s vehicle for an entire generation. SNOT techniques are used here to create smooth surfaces on both the top and sides of the elongated hood.
