FIRST LEGO League has some huge changes coming in 2026; the program will begin to phase in AI-based technology, replacing old SPIKE-based systems, as well as restructure its age bracketing system to better level the playing field.

LEGO Education retires SPIKE portfolio

LEGO Education is retiring its SPIKE portfolio. SPIKE covered a range of kits that were used to teach children about robotics and programming, as well as being the foundation of FIRST LEGO League. All support for SPIKE is set to end in 2031.
