LEGO The Golden Girls may be on the way

Long-running sitcom The Golden Girls may be getting an official LEGO set, as the company considers whether to move forward with another sitcom inspired model.

LEGO The Golden Girls is a definite possibility in the near future, as LEGO Ideas has placed a fan concept for such a set into the Parking Lot. That means that the 1980s sitcom could become an official model that you can buy and build at home. It would almost certainly feature LEGO characters of Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia.

Martin K submitted a digital LEGO build inspired The Golden Girls to LEGO Ideas, where 10,000 other users voted for it. The LEGO Group has been considering it for an official release, but need a little more time to assess whether it is meant to be.

“Imagine bringing the warmth and charm of The Golden Girls into your home with a LEGO set,” says Martin. “Picture colourful pieces and minifigures of your favourite characters, allowing you to recreate their iconic moments and adventures. Whether it’s assembling the cosy kitchen where countless heartfelt conversations took place, or setting up the living room where the girls shared so many laughs, a LEGO set would let you relive these cherished scenes in a fun and interactive way.”

The Golden Girls first aired in 1985 and ran for seven seasons. It follows the escapades of Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak, Betty White as Rose Nylund, Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux and Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo. Each of them deal with different problems, looking for support from their friends – hence the memorable theme song, Thank You For Being a Friend.

If the set does make it to release, then it will follow other mass audience sitcoms that have become LEGO sets like 21319 Central Perk and 21302 The Big Bang Theory.

The Old Man & The Sea and Daft Punk Concert have also been put into the Parking Lot for further consideration. Six sets have been announced too – E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Downton Abbey, La Catrina, Ramen, Smurf Village and Go Go Power Rangers! Megazord.
