LEGO KPop Demon Hunters – what we want for the fans

LEGO KPop Demon Hunters is on the way and there are sets that are needed “for the fans”! Blocks is picking out some of the key characters, scenes and locations that must be part of this epic new theme.

Things are going to be golden as LEGO KPop Demon Hunters will bring Rumi, Zoey and Mira to the brick-built stage. Every since the immediate success of the Sony Animations movie when it landed last year, everyone has been singing along to Golden, buying the albums and obsessing over Derpy. One LEGO set is coming soon, with a full range on the way in 2027 – there has been no announcement on whether the theme will use minifigures, mini-dolls or even be more of an 18+ display collection.

There has already been a bunch of merch and collectibles released from Funko, Squishmallows and others – what do fans need from the LEGO sets?

Grab your lightsticks and join Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, to dance through the details that fans deserve in the upcoming sets…

Sights of Seoul

While HUNTR/X might be fighting mystical demons using the magical power of K-pop songs, all of the locations in the animation are based on real places in Seoul. Any of the locations could be incorporated into the sets, though Naksan Park would be a highlight. This is where Rumi and Jinu have a heartfelt conversation about the scars they carry from their pasts (and choo-choo pyjamas) while walking along the historical Seoul City Wall.

HUNTR/X on tour

As Rumi, Mira, and Zoey go on tour to promote their new album, the girls have an entire new wardrobe for performing the different songs. Not only is this an accurate portrayal of K-pop bands, but this means fans need as many character variants as possible. Whether it’s through minifigures or mini-dolls, the costume variants are essential. It would also be great to see printed details for the norigae (a type of tassel) pendants that they all wear and to have Rumi proudly showing off her purple demon patterns.

Ramyeon, kimbap and tteokbokki

Before preparing to spend hours on stage performing for the fans or when winding down after a tour, HUNTR/X make sure to load up on snacks. Food is an integral part of their routine and reflects the importance of meal time in Korean culture. Everything they eat in KPop Demon Hunters reflects real food, including ramyeon, kimbap, tteokbokki, fishcakes and more. The sets need to include some of these references, whether it’s a printed bowl full of noodles or new moulds for kimbap.

The best manager of all time

Another character who is absolutely essential is Bobby. He’s the manager for HUNTR/X and the biggest hype squad for the girls. Although he is always wearing plain, understated clothes and is engrossed with the numbers on social media, he brings a lot of heart and soul to the movie. His LEGO character design should feature a HUNTR/X T-shirt and his backstage lanyard that he never goes anywhere without. An added bonus would be a unique phone element printed with the group’s social media or even a rival Saja Boys video.

“I made it for the tiger, but the bird kept stealing it.”

Derpy and Sussie have to be together in every LEGO set. This pair have broken the internet and plushies of the characters keep selling out. It’s also important to keep them together because of the original inspiration for these cute sidekicks – kkachi horangi paintings. This is a type of Joseon dynasty artwork that literally translates to magpie and tiger, which was satirical in nature, though also a symbol of good fortune. These two animals could be presented as new moulded elements, whuch will hopefully incorporate a way for Sussie to always sit on Derpy’s head.

Blocks has long championed the idea of sets inspired by the animated movie and has a guide to other LEGO sets that fans of the film might enjoy. LEGO Ideas users have submitted creations inspired by the animated epic.
