The LEGO Group has announced that The X-Files is going to have an official brick building set.
When strange things are afoot, it’s time to call in the experts! Fans have been wanting to believe that a LEGO set is out there for The X-Files and the beloved television series is getting an official LEGO model.
The X-Files follows the paranormal adventures of two FBI agents, Fox Mulder – who firmly believes in alien life – and Dana Scully – who is a self-proclaimed skeptic, as the pair investigate strange occurrences and unresolved cases. They have to deal with all types of paranormal phenomena and uncover conspiracies that hide the truth from the public. The extremely popular sci-fi series aired in 1993 and ran for eleven seasons along with two feature films.
Ten years ago, co-stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny posted a tweet holding custom minifigures of their characters as part of a viral campaign calling for a LEGO The X-Files set. At that time it didn’t happen, but now it has just been announced as one of the winners for the LEGO Ideas Build Your Nostalgia – 90s Throwback challenge. Persistence has paid off.
This challenge asked fan designers to create a build between 1,000 and 5,000 pieces based on their favourite films or TV shows that defined the 1990s. There were 192 submissions and Australian LEGO Ideas expert, Brent Waller, known as WetWired on the platform, was the winner with The X-Files The Truth is Out There, which depicts a UFO hovering over Mulder’s iconic office.
If Brent’s name sounds familiar that’s because he’s a veteran of the LEGO Ideas platform and has previously had models approved in review as official sets. He’s the designer behind 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and 21326 Seinfeld. For almost a decade he has been pushing The X-Files product ideas and this time was clearly the right time.

“This vignette features a forest UFO scene above a recreation of Mulder’s famous basement office, complete with the I Want To Believe Poster,” he says on Ideas. “Filled with references and in jokes it includes Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, the ‘Grey’ Alien, the Jersey Devil and Assistant Director Walter Skinner.” While it stills needs to undergo development and the final design will differ from his creation, hopefully many of these details will remain in the finished model.
This is alongside the upcoming LEGO Ideas Wallace & Gromit model, which has been announced as the other winner for the LEGO Ideas 90s Throwback Challenge. Two more LEGO Ideas sets based on classic pop culture are coming sometime in 2026 as Tintin and Godzilla were approved in the latest review.
