What are the new modes in LEGO Fortnite?

With LEGO Fortnite getting the biggest update since its launch in December last year, Blocks is diving in to see how two new modes completely shake up the gameplay options.

LEGO Fortnite is a survival style game that allows players to build villages, farm and collect resources. It’s based on the typical format that survival games follow, with different biomes presenting unique challenges and the ability to find ever rarer resources. Since the game was released there have only been two options – Survival or Sandbox. In Sandbox, players just build to their heart’s content and there are no enemies. In Survival, everything wants to eat you.

Now, the new v30.10 Fortnite update that just dropped has launched two new modes. Blocks, the monthly LEGO magazine, is explaining everything you need to know…

Cosy Mode

Maybe you’re new to the survival game format and don’t want the stress of having to defeat powerful enemies. If you’re just looking for a little combat, with more focus on the building or farming aspects, then Cosy mode is offering a more relaxed gameplay style.

A new village called Slumber will guide new players step-by-step through the journey of LEGO Fortnite. Enemies will be significantly easier to defeat and your character will not be affected by the environmental variations. Cold, heat and hunger are all turned off. It’s a mix between Sandbox and Survival, but will still get you in-game achievements.

Expert Mode

Are you a fan of combat? Do boss fights get your adrenaline pumping? If you think you’ve got what it takes to face fierce foes and defeat even behemoth Brutes, then the new Expert mode may be the challenge you’re looking for next. If Survival mode is too easy then this takes it up quite a few notches.

Expert mode has no respawn. If you’re eliminated, that’s the end of the game. It’s not an option typically present in this genre, but it’s incredibly exciting for experienced players, offering a format similar to Honour Mode in Baldur’s Gate 3. There are no second chances (unless you’ve built a new Totem of Return).

Enemies are going to be much harder to defeat and there’s a new Storm-Wild setting. These creatures are infected by a storm and roam in packs. They are faster, have greater health, and deal more damage. If all of that wasn’t difficult enough, you can’t outrun Storm-Wild creatures. However, these enemies offer special Storm Cores for new Builds and you’ll gain trophies to build in your villages if you can destroy Storm-Wild Brutes.

This is the biggest update to LEGO Fortnite since its release, with the new modes offering even more gameplay options – all of which are still completely free to play (with option in-game purchases). It’s really enhancing the replayability of this title. Which mode are you excited to try? Let Blocks know on any of our social media channels.
