LEGO Star Wars 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid rolling into action

Star Wars’ favourite sassy spherical droid is making his return as a LEGO Star Wars statue set in 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid.

75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid will come with 569 pieces and a minifigure-scale BB-8 figure for £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99, releasing on January 1, 2026 on LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores.

BB-8 caught the eyes of eager Star Wars fans when the first teaser for The Force Awakens released in 2015, and the rolling astromech fast became a fan favourite and one of the highlights of the Sequel Trilogy for many.

LEGO Star Wars first tackled a large-scale statue of the droid in 2017 as part of the Last Jedi wave of sets with 75187 BB-8. Statues had made occasional appearances in the theme before that, but 75187 BB-8 was the first in the modern, consistent lineup of statue sets, which now includes models such as 75318 The Child and 75430 Wicket the Ewok.

75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid is the latest statue model and follows in the footsteps of 75403 Grogu and Hover Pram, downscaling the character compared to the previous version while making using of more modern elements and techniques for a smoother appearance. This new set uses a variety of sloped elements to create BB-8’s shape, then relying on large printed dish elements for the faces of each side. Due to the limitations of the LEGO system, the end result isn’t a complete sphere, but it appears to have done just about as good of a job as is possible in a set. And it is certainly smoother than the 2017 version.

But what sets 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid apart from 75187 BB-8 even more is the tire built into the bottom. Where the 2017 model was built as a complete “sphere,” 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid opts for a flat bottom with a tire just poking out. This allows BB-8 to roll around and be used as a proper toy, unlike the last version. This also means that the model can be placed down and displayed anywhere, whereas 75187 BB-8 was confined to its display stand.

When rolling BB-8, a Technic mechanism built into his body will cause his head to spin in random directions, adding an extra bit of functionality to the model that fans young and old are sure to appreciate.

BB-8’s head sits comfortably atop the main sphere, using its own set of printed half-dishes to work in detail while not compromising on texture or shaping. A minifigure-scale astromech head is used for one of his sensors.

Much like the 2017 model, 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid has an opening panel that reveals some of his many tools and tricks. The standout for most fans is likely to be the torch that he uses to give Finn a thumbs-up in The Force Awakens, but there is also a small claw that will allow BB-8 to hold onto some accessories. The torch appears to lack the folding mechanism present on the 2017 model, but the full extent of the function will be clear once the set is in hand for Blocks to review.

Keeping with other statue sets of this style, 75452 BB-8 Astromech Droid comes with a UCS-style display plaque that provides information about the character as well as a place for minifigure-scale BB-8 to rest. The smaller BB-8 does not appear to be a new figure.
