LEGO Icons 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook revealed

LEGO 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook has been officially revealed, with the fiery Balrog at last emerging from the shadows.

Releasing on June 1, 2025, 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook contains 1,201 pieces, one minifigure, and will retail for £109.99 / $129.99 / €119.99.

The second LEGO Book Nook to be revealed, 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook will launch the same day as 10351 Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook and 76450 Book Nook: Hogwarts Express, as the LEGO Group tries out a new type of display model.

With its 1,201 pieces, 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook recreates the fateful moment from The Fellowship of the Ring in which Gandalf stands strong and challenges the mighty Balrog, a demon lurking in the depths of Middle-Earth since the First Age.

The frame of the set is not as densely packed as 10351 Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook, though it is accurate to the architecture of Moria, the underground kingdom where the iconic standoff takes place. This is the first appearance of Moria in the brick since 2012’s 9473 The Mines of Moria, and while it’s certainly not the most complete representation of the Dwarven kingdom, the clean shaping of the pillars and excellent use of NEXO KNIGHTS shields leave no mistake as to the location.

The Balrog is of course the set’s main attraction, as this is the evil creature’s first ever appearance in a LEGO set. The creature is primarily built in black elements, fitting with its shadowy aesthetic in the film. Some light and dark grey elements do peek through, but mostly in the form of ball joints, suggesting that the Balrog will have a significant amount articulation. The wings appear to be vinyl pieces — commonly used on LEGO dragons — and firmly assert the LEGO Group’s stance on the endless debate of whether Balrogs have wings or not.

Fire is the Balrog’s main trade, so the set naturally has plenty of flames to go around, though specific flame elements are reserved for the Balrog’s back; the fires on either side use brick-built solutions.

Gandalf is the set’s only minifigure and fills out the scene nicely. He stands on the opposite end of the absurdly narrow bridge, ready to plunge the Balrog back into the shadow. And his iconic “You shall not pass!” line is displayed on a tile just behind him.

As is standard for the new Book Nooks, 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook can be displayed closed up and slotted into a shelf like a proper book nook, or the two flaming sides can be swung open for a wider and grander display — though doing so might prevent any actual books from fitting on the shelf with it.

“You can actually remove the Balrog and it’s all brick built, fully articulated and everything,” said Model Designer François Zapf.

“We’ve brought back these wing elements from the Fell Beast after smany arguments in the design department,” added Graphic Designer Nathan Davis. “They actually have very similar wings, I was wrong. For the face we have a tiny little print, not that tiny, with some glowing eyes, some flames coming from his mouth, via brick form, some flames in his nostrils and we’ll have some titanium ink on there to give him a bit of a leathery, rocky lava feel.”
