Confounded by the Cost: A Mystifyingly Overpriced Set
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 April 2023Maybe I am out of the loop, but I was honestly shocked to find the price tag on this set - a staggering £475(!) and I had to express my sheer bewilderment at this astronomical cost.
Objectively, the idea of paying £475 for a bunch of ABS plastic bricks is nothing short of outrageous. While I understand that LEGO sets can be pricey, especially those associated with licensed themes, I would consider pricey to be something like £100, not almost £500!
To put things into perspective, let's consider what else I could purchase for my child with the same amount of money. A trip to Centre Parcs for the whole family, a top-of-the-line 3D printer, a high-quality BMX bike, or even a massive train set with 10x more parts than this LEGO set - any of these options would provide a significantly higher fun value and longevity than this "toy".
This leads me to wonder if children, or even parents of children, are no longer the target audience for LEGO. Are these sets now solely catered to enthusiasts who can somehow justify spending an exorbitant amount on something that, from multiple perspectives, offers little value?
I find myself baffled and questioning what I might be missing here. Do other people know something I don't? Are there hidden treasures within this set that somehow warrant the enormous price tag? I truly cannot fathom why anyone would consider this set a reasonable purchase, given the incredible alternatives available for the same cost.
In conclusion, as much as I wanted to provide my child with the magical experience of the LEGO "Disney Train and Station," I simply cannot justify the outrageous price. I'm left feeling confused and disappointed, as I'm sure many other parents must be as well.
