Blocks presents a special edition LEGO magazine celebrating 90th anniversary

It’s time for the big one! The LEGO Group celebrates 90 years of play this year and Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, has launched a special commemorative edition to mark the occasion.

Grab your party hat and get ready to celebrate the biggest birthday of the year. The LEGO Group is turning 90 and Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, has a special edition that no fan can afford to miss. Even if you hate getting a good deal and don’t go for a subscription, you need to buy Issue 90 as a one-off.

Where else will you find out what is wrong with the classic LEGO horse? Or learn about the Castle subtheme that would have included an elephant? Or hear what colours Space Police sets were originally designed in?

The latest issue of Blocks, the LEGO magazine for fans, is available now. We also have a poster available featuring the bespoke build featured on the cover. Everyone who subscribes by May 4 will be in with a chance of winning one of two 10298 Vespa 125 sets!

Five LEGO designers who have had a huge impact on the themes that fans grew up with are sharing their stories and revealing what it was like to be part of the design team in the 1980s and 1990s. Niels Milan Pedersen talks about designing classic elements like the monkey and the Pirates flag; Steen Sig Andersen recalls bringing more fantasy into Castle; Bjarne P Tveskov shares monorail design stories; Torben Plagborg explains how his model railway hobby helped him introduce 9V Trains; Henk van der Does discusses his days in Town and how they inform his current role as a model coach.

Those interviews are not all though – our deep dive into the LEGO archives showcases a selection of artefacts that reveal something about the company’s history, with some items in there that you are very unlikely to have seen before.

Issue 90 also includes an exclusive build depicting Ole Kirk’s woodworking factory, based on schematics that are held by the LEGO Group. Instructions show how to build the workshop equipment yourself – plus we have three quick builds with instructions inspired by classic wooden toys.

As well as a tour of the LEGO factory, there are tributes to LEGO legends Jens Nygaard Knudsen and Dagny Holm Jensen.

Packing out the rest of the 116 pages are Speed Champions reviews, why 1932 is considered the years the LEGO Group began, Luigi’s Mansions set spotlights and much, much more. Seriously, don’t miss out in this one.

Blocks is giving away two LEGO Ideas 10298 Vespa 125 sets! To be entered into the prize draw and to get Blocks magazine delivered every month – ahead of the shops – check out the money-saving subscription deals available.

Everyone who subscribes to the print edition by May 4 will be in with a chance of winning (existing print subscribers will automatically be entered into the prize draw).
